Friday (2/10): Night Hike/Devotional

Start the weekend with a hike. We can get a some exercise, enjoy some mild winter weather, a great view, and a near-full moon.

DINNER:
6:30 Westlake Promenade (Westlake and TO Blvd)
Meet by the fountain outside of Barnes & Noble (Fresh Brothers, Pick-Up Sticks, Freshii, The Grill on The Alley, Champagne French Bistro, Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, etc.)

NIGHT HIKE:
8:00 Lang Ranch Parkway in Thousand Oaks (Meet at the end of Lang Ranch Parkway)

Directions: Exit 101 at Westlake Blvd - Turn (north) - Turn Right (east) at Lang Ranch Parkway - Go to end of street and park.

This will be a moderate hike, but you'll want appropriate shoes, a sweatshirt, water, and optionally a flashlight. We'll stop along the way and have a short devotional.

Sunday (2/12): 2nd Sunday Topic - 40 Days and 40 Nights

Throughout Scripture, we can find a recurring theme that revolves around the number 40. For 40 days Moses fasted on Mt. Sinai with God (Exodus 34:28-29), for 40 days Elijah fasted during his journey to Mt. Horeb where he heard the voice of God (1 Kings 19:8), and for 40 days Jesus fasted in the desert after he was baptized (Matthew 4:1-2). Historical documents also reveal that beginning in the first century, the Christian church added to their calender a period of 40 days that led up to Easter. Originally called Quaresma (the Latin word for 40), it's name was changed to Lent in the Anglo-Saxon period. What, if any, value is there for us today in participating in this season of Lent? Join us this Sunday, February 12 to hear from Pastor Drew Sams who will not only provide the historical origins and significance of this 40 day period, but also provide a biblical perspective for how to approach this upcoming 40 day season that begins on February 22.

We aren't having dinner as a group, but one option is to support our very own Carina O'berg at To The Max Nutrition (2685 E Thousand Oaks Blvd, 91362) who works there part-time. They are giving away free protein shake samples starting at 6pm.

He is a minister of the Word who preaches from his heart and who has grown a prophetic and healing ministry. For those of you who are in town and want to have a small group gathering, we'll gather and hear about his ministry, his heart, and have conversations that are focused on the eternal. Operation Embrace is a ministry of the Harbor Church to embrace, befriend and share the good news and teachings of Jesus Christ to the underserved, the disenfranchised, the poor, the homeless, the white collar workers, the blue collar workers and their families. We will support the Harbor by serving a hot meal (breakfast) cooking, serving, and cleaning up after the meal. There will also be an opportunity to attend the service with the guests if you so choose.

Location: The Harbor, 3100 Preble Ave, Ventura, CA 93003 (www.theharbor.us)

Times:
6:00am - 8:00am: Start cooking food
7:30am - 9:00am: Prep dining area and serve food at 8am
8:30am - 9:30am: Start cleaning up and washing dishes

You can meet us anytime during the time periods listed above. We typically finish by 9:30am and are back in time to attend second service at our own home church.

Hospital Relief International - Sorting Medical Supplies

Hospital Relief International (HRI) is an organization created by Hub member, Kevin Tolo. HRI has a warehouse in Camarillo where most of the donated supplies are stored. There is an immediate need to sort and inventory as much as possible. There is currently 1 very large project and 2 small projects that will have these items shipped out soon. The 3rd of 3, 40 foot containers will be sent to a new hospital in Guatemala in the coming weeks and there is therefore a need to prepare these supplies for transport.

As we are entering into the holiday season, this is a good opportunity to be in a state of giving! Please join us for a couple hours of work, learning about a new organization, and having some fun.

Directions: Exit 101 at Lynn Rd - Turn (South) - Turn Left (South) at Regal Oaks Ct - Go to end of street and park on the trail side.

This will be a moderate hike (around 3 miles one-way), but you'll want appropriate shoes, a sweatshirt, water, and optionally a flashlight.

9:00pm - Food Court near Target and Home Depot (1015 Broadbeck Dr, Newbury Park, CA 91320)
We'll meet over by Tutti Frutti frozen yogurt but there is also a Baja Fresh, Daphne's, The Habit, Presto Pasta, Subways, Jamba Juice, Starbucks, and a new BBQ joint too.

My own attitude of bitterness and unforgiveness started me to think on this subject. It’s by complete coincidence (though probably not coincidence by God’s perspective) that it also happens to be the anniversary of 9/11. I encourage you to reflect on the following questions: How have you experienced unforgiveness? What is God’s expectations of us in the area of forgiveness? Can justice and forgiveness co-exist in a Christ-centered culture? What do we gain/lose from unforgiveness? What do we gain/lose from forgiveness? Also bring your Bible and a pen.

We're heading down to the beach for an evening of hanging out, playing games, relaxing, cooking over the fire, all the usual beachy things!!!

Where: Thornhill Broome Campground
(9000 W. Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265)
(We typically take the 101 through Camarillo, but Decker and Kanan are both good routes too.)

Time: Come anytime after 4:00pm.

Food: Eat dinner before arriving, pick up something on your way to eat at the campsite, or bring food to bbq along with supplies to do so.

Parking: Free street parking is available until 10PM. Campsite parking costs $10 per vehicle and is very limited, so carpooling is encouraged.

Camping: If you would like to spend the night please bring all the neccesary supplies(tent, sleeping bag, pillow...). There only andy gumps.

The cost will be $2 a person to cover the fees for the camp site.

Operation Embrace is a ministry of the Harbor Church to embrace, befriend and share the good news and teachings of Jesus Christ to the underserved, the disenfranchised, the poor, the homeless, the white collar workers, the blue collar workers and their families. We will support the Harbor by serving a hot meal - breakfast - cooking, serving, and cleaning up after the meal. There will also be an opportunity to attend the service with the guests if you so choose.

We will return to Chipotle around 10:30am.

3rd Annual Hub Chili Cook-Off

Join us this Memorial Day Weekend for our 3rd Annual Chili Cook-off! It will be a fun day of cookin, hangin, and eatin some smokin chili. Its a great way to share your killer chili recipe and hang out with friends or make some new ones.

There are 2 options for you:

Participate on a chili team starting at 1:00 pm (if you absolutely can't be there at 1:00 let Paige know in advance and we'll put you on a team)
Join us for BBQ and chili eating at 6:00pm

"The Annual Serve Day is coming up. We have an opportunity to finish the 2 houses we started in Piru, CA last year. We will be doing painting and some landscaping.

The Project is for Action for our Serve Day on June 4th. Beginning 9:00 sharp! We should be done by 4:00 & we will need to bring a lunch. Map to Piru, CA

Here's the kicker... We would love to have the Hub Peeps take this on in full. We have 35 spots to fill, but we need a full head-count by the 24th!! If you are interested... Shoot me an e-mail with SERVE DAY in the subject line and let me know your name, phone number and age. Keep in mind, you must be 16 to participate with Habitat for Humanity. (that's not a church rule and there are other projects that are super kid friendly.)

Our time together this Friday will focus on fasting and prayer for our time at The Harbor. We will also be collecting an offering to help cover the costs for the evening. Come experience a traditional Passover Seder immediately after Good Friday service. This is a great opportunity to learn about the link between this special meal and Christ's death and resurrection. This is not a full meal. Some will go to dinner afterward.

There is No Tuesday Night - Angel Threads Distibution this month

The Angel Threads team would love our help tonight as they distribute the clothes out at the RAIN shelter in Camarillo. If you are interested, we will meet at Calvary (park your car along the curb) at 6:30. We will load the totes into our cars and caravan to Camarillo. It's a nice facility and the residents are super nice and very grateful. It's a transitional housing place where people live for 6-12 months. Lots of little kids too. We let the residents "shop" for about an hour, then we will load up and head back to church. We are usually back around 9 or 9:15.

It's the second Sunday of March already! There are several things happening at Calvary on Sunday, so we decided to adapt our usual structure to accommodate attending those things. There is a pastor from Pakistan who will be talking about how to share our faith with people from different cultures and religions. We thought that hearing his talk would be hugely beneficial! So, we'd like to gather for food and some casual conversation about what God's been doing in our lives lately and then join the Worship Service followed by the speaker.

Harbor Church in Ventura is hosting a special "Harbor of Praise" this weekend...they will be serving a full Thanksgiving meal to the homeless in the area.

We need your help so that we can serve alongside them. They are expecting a large group! Please join us.

Admission to the maze is $12.
101 East exit DeSoto Ave. turn LEFT (north) off the off-ramp.
Turn RIGHT on Victory Blvd (east) and be prepared to make a right at the fence opening entrance almost immediately following your turn.

Please join us as we come alongside the Free Meals program to serve those in our local community who are in need. We'll be helping to put the clothing bins out, assist people as they search for needed items, and then pack it up.

Calvary Community Church:
6:15 Meet in the Calvary warehouse or room 1100 to help set-up
7:00 Guests start going through the bins (room 1100)
8:00 Pack up and put bins away (we typically go grab a bite to eat afterward)
